If your outdoor space is feeling a little neglected, start here. You don’t need to replace everything; you just need a plan. Join interior designer Priya Gupta of Priya Design and Decor as she shares tips and tricks on how to spruce up your outdoor space.

Step 1: Clear It Out. Before buying anything new, start by cleaning and decluttering. Pressure wash surfaces, wipe everything down, and remove anything you don’t actually use. A clean space instantly feels more put-together.

Cleaning and decluttering are easy ways to glow up your space.

Step 2: Rethink What You Already Have. You don’t need all-new furniture to make a big impact. Try rearranging what you already own or mixing in pieces from indoors, or thrift finds. Breaking up “matchy” sets with a few different pieces can make the space feel more styled and current.

Step 3: Add Comfort and Color. This is where the space starts to come to life. Add outdoor pillows and throws for comfort and personality. Layer a rug to define the space, just make sure it’s large enough to anchor your furniture.

Floor plans show furniture on rugs: Loveseat + Armchair (5x8), Sofa + Loveseat + Armchair (8x10), Sofa with Chaise (9x12). Tips included.

Step 4: Bring in Greenery. Plants instantly make a space feel more inviting. Use a mix of sizes for depth, or opt for artificial greenery if you want something low-maintenance with the bonus of privacy.

Step 5: Set the Mood with Lighting. Lighting changes everything. String lights create a warm glow, solar lights are an easy option, and lanterns add a relaxed, elevated feel.

Step 6: Make It Functional. Think about how you actually use the space. Add a fire pit for gathering, an umbrella for shade, or a drink cart for easy entertaining. Storage benches are also great for keeping things tidy while adding extra seating.

Step 7: Finish with Personality. Now layer in the details. Outdoor art, candles, or even a mirror can make the space feel more styled and complete.

You don’t need a full overhaul to make your outdoor space feel good again. Start with what you have, make a few intentional updates, and build from there.
